Herd Sires

The bull that is used as your herd sire makes a huge impact on your program.  He accounts for half of the genetics in your entire calf crop.  Make sure that good genetics are playing a role in your herd sire selection.  Both Rodeo Max ST (now owned by Dickinson Cattle Company) and DDR Rio Ranger (co-owned with MMR Longhorns) have the sought-after characteristics for Longhorns and have made excellent sires for our program.  Semen is available on both Rodeo and Rio.  We are keeping an eye on the up and coming WS Jamakizm x Rosy Reality son, DDR Southern Thunder.  He has excellent prospects.

Bull Calves and Steers

Most of our bull calves are steered at a young age.  If you see a bull calf that you are interested in, let us know and we can hold off on steering him.  While there is a chance that we are steering a champion bull, the fact of the matter is that only one in 100 bull calves will be rock stars.  Our steers will either end up as trophy steers or will go into our meat program.
